Proper coffee in space

An Italian company has developed a espresso machine, called the ISSpresso, for use in the International Space Station. It is supposed to be delivered by an Italian astronaut later this year. So far, the ISS crew has had to sip only instant coffee.

However, brewing espresso entails the use of high-pressure steam inside the machine. This is a potential hazard in the small enclosed environment inside the station, so the ISSpresso will be equipped with robust steel pipes instead of the customary plastic ones.

  1. Det gläder mig att man tänker på kaffet. Kan inte tänka mig en rymdfärd utan gott kaffe. =)
